Back to Teaching and Therapy Material

Week three of activities for Summer AAC Camp 2021. Let's travel to Hawaii!

 Materials

Monday - Read the "Hello Hawaii" book with your student. As you read the story, have the student answer the questions as they appear in the story.  You can then talk about places the student has been and things they like to do when on vacation.

Tuesday - Students can use their AAC device to direct an activity of making a pineapple with their fingerprints.  Cut a green pineapple top from green construction paper.  The student can direct where on the paper to place the top.  Supply the student with yellow ink pads.  The student uses their finger to create rows on the pineapple.  They can also choose a different color if the student wants to make a crazy one!  Brown or gold dots can be applied to add detail to the pineapple if the student wants.

Wednesday - Play Core Water Balloon Wars.  Write each target vocabulary word on the ground with sidewalk chalk.   Provide students with a bucket full of water balloons.  Have them choose a word and either find that word or use the word in a phrase or a sentence on their device.  If they are correct, they can then throw the balloon and try to erase the word as the balloon explodes.  A variation would be for the student to first throw the balloon and then find the word.  Have fun!

Thursday  - Print out the recipe for Fruit Parfaits.  Gather all ingredients.  Follow the instructions and continually ask the student to tell you what to do with their device.  They can tell you to "put in," '"urn around," "mix it," etc.  Add ingredients one layer at a time.  You can then talk about what the student wants to eat.  They can use their device to make requests.
