My Unicorn

Unicorns are magnificent and noble creatures. They are both a symbol of purity and goodness and the personification of untamed freedom.  They have been described as a beast with a single large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead.

I'm very different too, I have disability, I can't walk independently and I can't speak with my own voice!  So I have my own unicorn, I have a horn , called a headpointer !

As a little boy I loved to play with the head pointer to hold toys in the pool ,which was a lot better than hold toys with my hand at grandma's house ,who lives in Florida.  At the beach was more fun because I got to dig in the sand with a spoon attached to my head pointer, I even was able to build a sand castle with my head pointer!!!

Have you ever seen someone grilling with a head pointer?

I use my standing position on my power chair and a spatula attached to my head pointer ,ready to flip-flop the burgers and sausages!!! I was 7 years old when I first start to use the head pointer with dynavox! The head pointer was very very very wobbly as it didn't fit perfectly well on my head. But it was fantastic, when I touched the buttons on the device it spoke!!!!! I really loved it! It was not easy to bend forward with my head because of high muscle tone.

My dad said to me that you need a better head pointer! He made me one which fitted better than before! My head pointer became part of my body!!! Communication devices were just still always a lot of work for me. Strength consuming. Sometimes I just wanted people to guess what I wanted! But I had my voice and that was a blessing to me! I was 10 when the first ipad came out, I tried to use it but it was hard with the head pointer, it didn't work for me.

A year later I tried to use it again, with the new upgrades I was able to play fun games which I was never been doing before!!!!!! Toca games were the beginning of my fun with the ipad. Today I'm using an apple pencil attached to my head pointer which makes accessing easier and quicker to navigate my voice.

My craziest experience with my head pointer came when my dad attached a drill bit to it so I can roast bratwurst by the fire pit. It is fun to cook with my head pointer, challenging friends and family ,who will roast brats faster?

Thanks to my dad's innovations, my unicorn, my head pointer, hełps me to do all sorts of fun and most importantly to have a voice.
