It Was Like a Horror Movie

Flies, ants, spiders, bees, and bugs have always freaked me out. I don’t like anything that can crawl on my body, or run in our house. When I see an insect in our house, I need someone else to kill it because I have climbed on top of our television to avoid the multi-legged beast. You would think that our house-cat would get the little monsters, but the only thing he worries about is his empty food bowl.

I will never forget one night in particular that caused me to be horrified by the creepy crawlies. It was June, and my mom and I were coming back from an outing.  We were laughing and having a ball when we pulled up to the house. But we stopped laughing when we saw that our porch light had been left on. As we got closer, it looked like the door was moving.  An army of buzzing, vibrating June-bugs completely coated the door from top to bottom. It was truly like a horror movie. We didn’t know what to do and I almost peed my pants because I was so scared.  My mom walked me to The Door of Terror.  I tried to be calm as my mom devised a game plan of entry. Basically opening and rushing through as fast as lightning.  My mom opened the door, and with a war cry from me, we burst in! Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! I stepped on more than a few June-bugs as I hoppled into the living room.

One good thing was that the bugs were after the lights, not after us.  Sometimes you have to open a door that you’re scared of entering.  Maybe it is a new job or a relationship in which you are afraid of its beginning. Or it could be a door covered with your biggest fears. Either way, if you don’t step through the door, and stay where you are now, you will never know what lies on the other side.

Recently, my mom signed me up for a cooking class near where I live.  I didn’t want to go, but I did anyway, and I had so much fun! I had been afraid of doing something new and different that I had not done before. I don’t always push through my fears. But when I do, I usually enjoy the other side or I learn something from the challenge.

This is Life with Kyle and I will talk to you next week.
