Happy Place

Imagine yourself lying on a pristine beach. Your toes are dug into the warm white sand. A gentle  breeze softly touches your face and blows through your hair. You gaze out and see the most gorgeous sunset you have ever seen. Now you're totally relaxed without a care in the world.

Many times life gets crazy and we  all react in different ways. Some put their head in the sand, in hopes that everything  will just go away. Others plow forward trying to handle it all; while some people retreat to their "happy place" for a bit of rest, then they can return refreshed to face the day. I am not sure if there is a best way to deal with life when it gets hard,  this week I faced a rough time, but I found some happy places, even inside of a hospital.

I found out that I needed surgery on my neck after an MRI test last week. They did surgery this past Monday morning. My parents and I have been in the hospital for 10 days now.  The nurses have had to come wake me up every hour to shine a light in my eyes, take my temperature, and ask if I am sleeping ok ? Really ? Uh, not anymore , Thanks ! Talk about a rude awakening. I have had alot of pain from the surgery and cannot hardly swallow. I have to wear a big silly collar around my neck too.

My friend Andrew and his fiance came to spend an evening with me. Then my Grandparents came 3 days in a row. Two of my Aunts and a cousin have been to visit. So many people have called or messaged with prayer and encouragement. I have made lots of new great friends with the nurses and therapists. Thankyou to everyone who had reached out in any way. You are amazing and have helped me through this situation.

One late night my parents and I went downstairs and got some resese's peanut butter cups. Then we went out to the hospital's garden. It was a wonderful August night with a warm summer breeze. It was so amazing just taking in the fresh air and looking out  at the moon  over the St. Louis skyline. What a beautiful moment. I did not want it to end. In the middle of the tough times, I am finding some very happy places.

If you are going through a tough time right now or in the future, I hope you will look for your "happy place". Whether it is eating a reese's peanut butter cup in an enchanted garden, praying, listening to a favorite song, reading a good book, taking a hot bubble bath, or just talking  to a friend. Look for those special moments, and soak up every second of them. Then you will be refreshed and better able to face  the day. I wish you all lots of happy places this week.

This is life with Kyle and I will talk to you next week.
