Fishing in an Empty Pond

"Fishing in an Empty Pond"

The challenges of dating with a disability can feel like casting a line into still waters—waiting, hoping, but often being overlooked. People may see the disability before they see the person, making the search for connection even tougher. But self-worth and confidence come from within, and sometimes, it just takes casting into a bigger sea.

Casting my line, hoping for a bite,
But the water stays still, not a nibble in sight.
Maybe the pond ain't empty at all,
Maybe I just need a different call.
I need to cast into the sea,
'Cause these rivers and ponds aren’t working for me.

They see CP before they see me,
Like my whole identity’s my disability.
But I’m more than that, got stories to tell,
A sharp mind, a heart that swells.

Is it me? Do I not have a clue?
I don’t know, but I’m pushing through.
Recognizing value starts from inside,
And confidence comes when you take it in stride.

So, got any fish in your pool today?
Someone who sees me, not just what I say?
Someone who laughs, who gets my flow,
Who knows this pond’s got room to grow?
