Be a Chicken

Posted Dec 20, 2019 - 1:06pm

By Kyle Dinwiddie, PRC-Saltillo Blogger

Day in and day out, chickens seem to live life without a care in the world.  Whatever happens, it seems as if chickens just keep on pecking.  I believe that we should be more like chickens.

This past year began great for me.  I had lots of big plans for 2019.  I decided to take the summer off from college.  This would give me time to start writing again.  Also, I would be able to go to the camp that I love.  And I went to the camp and had a wonderful time.

Then shortly after that, I found out that I had a disc in my neck that was pressing on my spinal cord which was limiting me in every way.  It was very serious, and I needed surgery!

So I ended up living in the hospital from July to the end of August.  I came home wearing a neck collar.  And I wore it for six long weeks.  Then I was free!  But not for long.

Several weeks later, my mom started fostering two small kids.  Everything was about them.  If we went somewhere, we had to plan.  How long would we be gone?  Should we pack snacks?  Do we have enough diapers?  And in the midst of all of this, my older brother came home from LA to live with us, because he accepted a job.  I was so happy.  It was so wonderful having him home.  I had someone to talk to, and someone to do things with.  When he and I went somewhere, we could do it without all of the planning.  That was nice.  Then after Thanksgiving, the kids went to live with another family.  This was bittersweet because I do miss them and I think of them often.

Right before Thanksgiving, my dad injured his arm!  He had surgery on it two weeks ago.  He will be in a sling and will have only limited use of his arm for the next 6 weeks.

As I write this article, sitting in my green moon chair, I think about our chickens.  We have eleven of them; nine hens, two roosters, and seven Guineas.  My dad goes out each morning and brings them corn.  They wait and look forward to him bringing them their favorite treat.  Every day they seem to trust that my dad will come.  I wonder if our chickens ever worry about my dad not bringing them any corn.  Sometimes while waiting on God, it is easy to worry if God will provide.  Plus if He doesn’t provide right away, it is easy to try to find another way.  But God does provide for us in His own time.  He is never early or late. His timing is perfect; not some of the time or most of the time, but all of the time.  This is why I think we should be more like chickens.  And patiently wait for our master to provide for us. I have many things to be thankful for this past year, but I am looking forward to the next.  BOCK BOCK!

This is Life with Kyle and I will talk to you next week.
