This aspiring Paralympian is 32 years old with the given name of Sean Walker – but my team calls me “coach.” I play and coach a sport called boccia. It is similar to bocce but because I have Cerebral Palsy and cannot throw the balls, I use a ramp and an assistant. It’s a fun sport to play and to watch.
I am able to coach with my PRC device. It also provides me an opportunity for a part-time job as an advocate for folks with disabilities through Cuyahoga County Board of DD.
I live in an apartment in Parma, OH with neighbors who all are living with mobility challenges.
It is important for me to live on my own which was confirmed for me when I went to college at Wright State in Dayton. That was where I was introduced to my PRC communication device. I first used a Pathfinder, then the ECO 2, and also used an Accent 1200 with single switch scanning. I now have an Accent 1400 and am using Look eye gaze. All of my devices have had Word Power and they have helped me graduate college, obtain my jobs, give presentations at church and in the community at large, and become a PRC Ambassador.
I look forward to being of help to anyone who needs it.
