  PRC-Saltillo Ambassador

I was born a normal 8 pound, 2 ounce baby  and at 18 months my doctors gave me my vaccinations with a high fever called Roseola, which caused me to have a form of Cerebral Palsy called Spastic Quadriplegia or Spastic Cerebral Palsy. As a baby, I was put in several beauty contests and won. As a child, I was put into school by my parents and grandparent. I started school at the age of 3 years old. I was in special education for my first three years of school then I was put in mainstream education classes because I was so intelligent. At the age of 5 years old, I was in mainstreamed regular education classroom. When I got to high school I was put back in special education program for a few days because they were unsure of what level of education I would be on. After completing a placement test, I was placed back into a mainstream education classroom and graduated with a regular high school diploma. After graduation, I decided to enroll in an online university. My hobbies are just relaxing at home watching a movie or listening to music. Also, I like to do online shopping. What uniquely defines me from everyone else is my personality because I am easy going, caring of others, friendly, and I love everyone.

The reason why I want to become an ambassador is because I am a positive person, and I love my communication device. I would like to spread the word to others that these communication devices can open up a whole new world for them, because it has for me.  I know myself and being nonverbal is not fun. Not having a communication device made me   feel angry, sad, alone, and even stupid sometimes. Because I had something to say but was nonverbal or could not speak clearly or loud enough to be heard so my audience couldn’t receive my message.

Now, with a communication device, I am able to pursue my dreams and further my education. Personally, I am in a relationship. I can communicate with my family and friends, I am able to order my groceries online every month and I would like to see other people with a communication disorder do what I do.
