I am David Chapple and I earned a Bachelor’s degree of Computer Science from Cleveland State University. I now live and work in Austin, Texas with my wife, Kate Chapple (Kate May). I am a contract employee of Knowbility, Inc. a nonprofit organization that trains staff, implements effective accessibility strategies, and monitors the long-term goal of wide-spread availability of accessible information technology. Also, I serve as Vice President on the board of Accessible Housing Austin an organization that is committed to provide affordable, accessible, integrated housing for low-income people with disabilities.
As Co-Project Leader of the AAC Training and Dissemination at RERC on Augmentative and Alternative Communication I research how individuals who rely on AAC can be more independent. In addition, I have years of experience as an AAC mentor and troubleshooter for AAC devices. Working closely with individuals using ACC I have provided a full range of AAC interventions, including research and development of AAC technology. I write a blog named Speaking with Professionals Alternatively where I write about how people who rely on AAC interact with people from various professions. In addition, I have presented at numerous conferences and published research articles on various topics pertaining to AAC. In my spare time, I like to travel with my wife and enjoy painting.
