Celebrate the New Year or any festive moment with this energetic fireworks-themed dance game! Learners use AAC to direct, request, comment, and express feelings while dancing to music and playing a fireworks-inspired version of “Simon Says.”

Fireworks

 What you need:

  • Optional props: streamers, balloons, tinsel

  • Party music

  • AAC devices or communication boards

  • Optional: firework images or sound effects

 What to do:

  1. Introduce fireworks and demonstrate a few themed dance moves (e.g., rocket = jump, sparkler = spin).

  2. Model describing the movements using AAC: “Go fast,” “Spin up,” “I feel happy.”

  3. Play “Simon Says – Fireworks Edition.” One person gives instructions like “Simon says go slow!” or “Jump up!” (without “Simon says” to trick players).

  4. Encourage everyone to take turns being the leader using AAC pre-programmed phrases.

  5. Adapt the game to include symbolic gestures, firework sounds, or directing others with AAC.

Example AAC Models by Level:

  • 1-word: “go,” “happy,” “stop,” “fast”

  • 2-word: “go up,” “my turn,” “stop dance”

  • 3-word: “I like it,” “you ready go?” “feel good now”

Functions Targeted:

  • Requesting: “More dance,” “Again,” “My turn”

  • Directing: “Go fast,” “You stop”

  • Commenting: “I feel happy,” “You good”

  • Refusing: “Don’t want do that,” “Let’s stop now”

  • Interjecting: “Oops!” “Oh dear!” “Haha!”
