Inspire kindness and gratitude with this activity celebrating heroes! Learners will use AAC to describe people they admire, give compliments, and create a visual “Hero Wall” as part of Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Superhero

 What you need:

  • Pre-cut shapes (stars, shields, capes)

  • Markers, crayons, stickers

  • Glue, Sellotape, or Velcro

  • Pictures of real and fictional heroes (e.g., family, helpers, activists)

  • AAC devices or communication boards

 What to do:

  1. Show images of different types of heroes. Ask questions like “Who helps you?”

  2. Model using AAC: “She is kind,” “He helps people,” “My hero is grandma.”

  3. Let each learner choose a shape and create their own hero using drawing, stickers, or words.

  4. Attach the shapes to a “Hero Wall” while modelling AAC phrases.

  5. Invite learners to share who they chose and why using AAC-supported sentences.

Example AAC Models by Level:

  • 1-word: “help,” “good,” “my,” “hero”

  • 2-word: “my hero,” “help me,” “look here”

  • 3-word: “She is kind,” “They help me,” “I like her”

Functions Targeted:

  • Describing: “She is strong,” “He helps people”

  • Requesting: “I want sticker,” “Help me”

  • Commenting: “That’s good,” “Wow!”

  • Refusing: “Don’t want,” “Not mine”

  • Sharing feelings: “I like her,” “She makes me happy”
