During the summer it can sometimes be hard to think of ways to model with your AAC. This activity is here to give you some ideas for modelling language while just simply going for a walk. So pack up a picnic and let’s go on a colour hunt!
Colour hunt sheet (printable or homemade)
AAC device or communication board
Optional: picnic food, camera, coloured pencils, paper, whiteboard, coloured pens, your dog!
Use the colour hunt sheet or create your own before your walk.
Go on a walk and look for objects matching each colour on your sheet.
Tick off each colour when found, using AAC to model: “Look that,” “It’s big,” “I like blue.”
Explore nature with sensory fun: do bark rubbings, taste colourful food, or spot insects.
Encourage AAC users to direct attention or comment on findings.
