July: What’s A Way You Show Your Pride About Who You Are Or Where You Are From?

I am proud about my identity and there are different facets of my identity. I am a non-speaking autistic girl. I am happy to see myself represented in books and movies.

In the month of June, my friends and I got to share about our experiences as an AAC user before the screening of the movie ‘Out of my mind’ at our local library. I was happy to see so many families attend this event and all the other AAC users who came to support us. It was definitely a proud moment for our community to be seen and heard.

I am also looking forward to celebrate 4th of July with my family. We like going to the parade and watching the fireworks at night. I make sure to wear my noise cancelation headphones so I can tolerate the sound of the fireworks. We also decorate our home with flags, streamers and wreath every year to celebrate the holiday. I am proud to be an American Indian. I get to celebrate both cultures and I enjoy the best of both worlds!
