Final Destination

With a thump, my dad jumped on my bed and began hopping up and down.

I groaned, “What time it is?”

 “Nine o’clock,” he cheerfully replies.

I buried my head deeper in my pillow.

“It’s DASA’s Super Sports Sunday,” announces my dad.

I quickly sat up and sprung out of the bed.

“We don’t have time to eat,” my dad said as I dashed around my room.

From across the house, my mom calls out, “How about McDonald’s?"

My mom has some incredible hearing.  A faint whisper or even a mouse scurrying by my mom could hear it.

After quickly dressing and getting into the van, we arrived at McDonald’s.

“WHY?”  I thought.  Why does McDonald’s serve breakfast all day long?  What so special about breakfast foods anyway.  My dad has a dream of eating cheeseburgers for every meal.  And I'd like some chicken nuggets for breakfast.  I don’t understand why I have to wait until 10:30 for them.  So, I had to settle for some type of Mc-Boring breakfast thingy.

As we got closer to the event, we realized that we were lost.  The address my dad typed into his phone was not right.  Luckily my dad remembered where last year's event was.  And sure enough, it was in the same place.

Once we arrived, my mom was given a bunch of paperwork to fill out for me.  I surprised everyone by signing my own paperwork.  My assigned helper grew a little overwhelmed when she saw my walker.  My dad tried to explain to her how my walker worked, but she seemed confused and acted as if it was going to eat her.  So, my parents decided to stay close just in case she needed help with my walker.

The first thing I was assigned to do was the rock climbing wall.  Last year when I tried climbing the wall, I made the mistake of looking down.  Big mistake!  For a while now, I had wanted to try again.  I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.  So, some helpers lifted me out of my chair and put a harness on me with a seat.  I was given a cool hand pulley which I was able to pull myself up with.  I was too busy concentrating working the hand pulley to look down.  And before I knew it I had gone to the top of the rock wall.  It was really fun!  And my fear left me.

Next, I went to an amazing obstacle course that one of my friends had set up.  It was very challenging.  First I raced down where I had to stack up a set of cones, then I raced over to do jumping jacks, then I picked up a huge ball and bounced it five times, then I had to crawl on my hands and knees back to tag someone else.  It was a genius idea for an obstacle course!

As I was recovering from this obstacle course, there was a giant dance party getting started.  I really like dancing, so off I went.  Everyone was making opening and closing signs with their arms to some song about a baby shark and a mama shark.  It was one of the worst songs I have ever heard!  So when the DJ asked if anyone had a song request. Here was my chance.  I had been practicing my dance for Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk for a while now.  She played the song for me.  Everyone cheered and we all danced to several more upbeat tunes.  As I was showing off my dance moves, I noticed my best friend, Joe, at the basketball court.

I met Joe at a swimming lesson and we became instant friends. Joe is a fantastic guy.  He is a wonderful artist and he always encourages me about publishing my books.

Joe included me into a basketball game, although, I had never played basketball before.  I do have a very good throwing arm; except for sometimes when my tone kicks in when I get too excited.  Before I knew it my friend threw me the ball, placing me into the spotlight.  I rushed towards the basket and dunked it.  He cheered.  I made several more baskets, before it was time to go to the pool.

The pool at the Rec Center is huge.  It has a current that moves from the lazy river back into the main swimming area.  There were so many things to do.  It was the perfect way to end the day.  I can’t wait to go again.

Sometimes adventures begin rocky, but if you keep going forward, you WILL find a final destination. Many times this final destination may not be what you wanted, but what you needed.

This is Life with Kyle and I will talk to you next week.
