Growing up I had to have help with everything—getting dressed, showering, going to the restroom and eating. I don’t know how my mom managed. I remember when my mom told me one day, “I think it’s about time you learn how to dress yourself.”
The first time I dressed myself it took probably 45 minutes. That’s not counting putting on my braces and shoes, which I eventually learned how to do by myself. I remember when I would put on my glorious leg braces, I would pretend that I was in a race with other handicapped kids who had to put their braces on. When I look back I think I probably won every race. LOL!
I learned to be a very independent handicapped woman, thanks to my parents and therapist. I can basically get ready for the day in about a hour. Thank goodness I don’t have braces anymore!
There are times, though, when I do have to ask for help. Asking your younger sisters for help when you are 22 is very humbling. My sisters are wonderful helpers!
We all need help. Guess who always volunteers to help us? Jesus! He never complains about helping us helpless people over and over again.
Psalm 54:4 says, “Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.”
Jesus volunteered to live a sinless life and then died on a cross for ALL our sins, then rose up from the dead in 3 days, all so that we could have a relationship with Him on earth and in Heaven! So we wouldn’t be separated from Him in Hell.
I Cor. 15:3-4: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
To accept this free gift, you first have to realize that you are a sinner and you need help.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Then, you have to recognize that Jesus loves you no matter what you have done. He wants to help you.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Lastly, you have to humbly ask Jesus to forgive you for all you’ve done and ask Him to cleanse and to save you from all your sins.
For whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9,10)
Then, thank Him for dying in your place on the cross.
The Lord knows your heart if you were sincere and humble when you asked Jesus for forgiveness, you just became a child of God.
