A Voice To Be Heard: How My Device Opened My World

Posted Jan 22, 2026 - 3:42pm

by JJ Seice, PRC-Saltillo Ambassador

My family and I are able to talk without my device. Our conversations are not always perfectly clear, but they understand what I need, and that means a lot.

Without my device, I can’t talk to anyone outside my family. But with my device—and with a phone or computer—I can stay connected to friends and my extended family all across the country. It allows me to call people, chat online, and be part of their lives.

I know someone who doesn’t have a talker, and it makes me sad. I wish everyone who needs a device could get one. Having a device gave me a voice. I got mine when I was six years old, and it opened my life.

I believe everyone with a disability deserves the chance to communicate, to be heard, and to connect with the world. My device helps me talk, and I want others to have that same opportunity.
