Hello, I’m Kyle Barnhart from Hanover, Pennsylvania. I was born with Cerebral Palsy. When I was around three, I got my first communication device, the Liberator. I was enrolled in a special needs preschool at the time, but because I could communicate, the teachers and my parents realized I could handle being in the mainstream school system. The next year, I went to a regular preschool where I excelled. I had such a positive experience with our local school district. I was involved in several activities inside and outside of school, where I made several life long friends. After graduation, I attended Millersville University, where I majored in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health. Just like high school, I was involved in several activities. By living on campus, I was able to meet some close friends that were a great support system for me over the years. When I graduated, I was given the honor to give the class speech at graduation.
After graduation, I started looking for employment, which turned out to be very difficult because of my limitations. Unfortunately I could never find employment in my field, however I participate in several activities that enrich my life. While in high school, I joined the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Company with several of my buddies. I’m still a proud member and help at our social events. I was also given the opportunity to help create and co chair an event with my best friend. The event is our annual antique fire muster, which is just like a car show but with fire engines. I also volunteer at The Greater Hanover Area Fire Museum, where I help with the yearly train garden we have around the holidays.
I live on an old farmstead with my parents, a lot of the land was sold off before we bought it but we have two acres which keeps me busy. I have my own John Deere tractor and love using it to help with the outside work. I also help a good friend on his farm. I enjoy being with my family. I have a younger brother and an older sister who’s married and has a daughter, I really enjoy being an uncle! I love taking trips with them and just hanging out. I’m a big fan of the outdoors and love going camping, biking and adaptive skiing!
It’s such a great honor to become a brand ambassador for PRC-Saltillo. Over the past 32 years, having a communication device played a vital role in the success I had throughout my life. I’m proud of the accomplishments in my life but what I cherish the most are the relationships I made throughout the years because I am able to communicate. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and helping them realize they can achieve their goals with a communication device. Thank you! Send me a note - see below.
