Picture for Emily Kate
  PRC-Saltillo Ambassador

I did not start breathing when I was born and this resulted in me having cerebral palsy. I have speech issues and, despite years of speech therapy, people still have a difficult time understanding me. I graduated with honors from college with two degrees in writing in 2022. While job searching, I taught myself HTML and returned to school for a two year degree in Web development and database design.

I have a love for music, horror, and writing. One of my biggest goals in life is to get my voice out in the world and use it to advocate for disability justice. I hope that my knowledge of writing and technology cn help me achieve this goal. I not only use my AAC device to communicate with people, but I can also plug it into my computer. I can press a button with a word or a phrase and my ACC will send it to my computer. My cerebral palsy makes me a slow typer and being able to press a button for a word or even a phrase helps me save a lot of time and energy. I also am able to make custom hotkeys that I can program into my AAC and have it perform on my computer.
