This month we’re exploring how we can send kind, silly, or funny messages using AAC! In this activity, we'll get to know each other a little bit more by asking questions, sharing how we feel and what we like to others all in fun, creative ways.

Red Postbox White Background

 What you need:

AAC device or symbol board

Talking Buttons (or recordable devices/apps)

A Postbox (decorated cereal box with a slot)

 What to do:

What To Do:

Choose a Message

Let everyone choose a message or question they want to send something kind, silly, or funny.

You could model things like:

·       “Guess what?”

·       “What’s your favourite song?”

·       “Tell me a joke!”

·       “What are you doing?”

·       “Let’s talk!”

Record It

Use your AAC and record into a talking button or another recordable device.

You can model things like

·       “My message is ready"

·       “Push the button”

Send the Message

Put the message in the Postbox

Model phrases like:

·       “In it goes!”

·       “Pop it in the box”

·       “Mail time!”

·       “Put in”

·       “Send it”

·       “To you!”

Listen and React

Play the messages out loud or “deliver” them to someone nearby.

Model reactions like:

·       “What did it say?”

·       “You got a message!”

·       “Ooooh, surprise!”

·       “I like that.”

·       “Funny!”

We can also play around with Vocal smilies on AAC device too, to model expressive sounds like:

·       “Yay!”

·       “Whoa!”

·       “Noooo!”
